Math
This week in Math, we will be focusing on telling time to the half hour. To help the students understand how to tell time to the half hour we will teach them that each hour has a "room"
after the number. Whenever the short hand is inside the room, that is the hour. We will be learning about each room and the students will get to create their own color coded room clock.
During math workshop, small groups will be rotating between partner games, independent work, technology station, and teacher table. For independent work, the students will practice reading analog clocks that show time to the hour and half hour. The students will have to write the time in digital form. For partner work, the students will play a game called Fill in the Face where they will practice writing the numbers on the clock. Partners will also play another game where they will get to use their "clock rooms" to help them tell time to the half hour. For computers, the students will play Fuzz Bugs on abcya.com. At the teacher table, we will practice telling time to the hour and half hour. We will also focus on elapsed time. For instance, Bob started practice at 5:00. He practiced soccer for 1 hour. What time was practice over at? Practice was over at 6:00.
Science:
This week in Science, we will be learning about different habitats and how the habitat supports the life of the animal. Each student will have their own animal fact booklet that they will be recording information each day. Below are some of the habitats and animals we will be learning about.
Rain forest - Poison Dart Frog
Ocean - Shark
Desert - Rattlesnake
Grassland - Cheetah
