Reading
- We will be starting a new unit in Readers Workshop this week: Readers Get to Know Characters By Performing Their Books!
- In class, we will be practicing some readers theater activities in groups. The students will have a 'part' in each book. They will read, practice, and perform their readers theater project later on in the unit.
- This unit is a great way for the students to really get to know different characters and actually act out what is happening to the character in a story.
Writing
- We are starting a new unit in Writers Workshop: Series Writing. Students will be working on making a series of books, using the same character in each story but a DIFFERENT problem in each story.
- We have shown several examples of series books, such as: Henry and Mudge, Franklin, Arthur, Junie B. Jones, Pete the Cat, etc. We want our authors to learn that they can create a character that goes on many adventures through different books!
- Conventions and Grammar: This week, we will be focusing on the skill of noticing and using prepositions.

Word Study
- This week, we will be working a_e and i_e word pattern. "Magic E" makes the A and I say it's name. (Ex. bake, cake, take, bike, write, kite)

- You will see a GREEN WORD STUDY BOOKLET in the back of your child's binder. Just a reminder that this booklet stays in their binder. It should never stay at home. ALSO, your child should NOT work ahead on this booklet at home. We will work through it together at school, and then they can use it as a study tool at home. Please make sure they DO NOT work ahead in it at home. Thank you for your help with this!
