Reading
- In Readers Workshop this week, we will be working in groups on a book talk project! Each group will have an Elephant and Piggy book and they will be working and talking about this book all week.
- Each group member will be making a foldable about their book. We will focus on character traits, problem and solution, and a lesson learned from each book. The groups will work a little bit on their foldables each day and share their finished project at the end of the week!
- On Tuesday, child will bring home a book that is on their independent reading level. On Tuesday February 27th, they will be taking a comprehension grade over this book. This will be a daily grade, not a test grade. They will have all week to read the book and practice the comprehension skills and strategies we have taught in class. Please read the book several times so they are familiar with it. They will be allowed to use the book when they take the grade, however if they do not have the book with them that day, they will take the grade without the book. Thank you so much for working with your child on their reading!
Writing
- In Writers Workshop, we will continue looking at mentor texts to help us with our own writing.
- We will work on adding details to our small moment stories and looking closely at different 'author crafts' we find in our read alouds to add in our own writing.
Conventions and Grammar: This week, we will be focusing on the skill of using future tense verbs. These verbs usually have the word "will" in front of it. Example: will run, will jump, will skip.
Word Study
- This week, we will be learning and working with the -ee word family (ex: see). We will be discussing the "vowel pair" rule: "When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking."
- We will have a word study grade this Thursday over the -ar,-ir-or-ore, and-ee word families.
- You will see a GREEN WORD STUDY BOOKLET in the back of your child's binder. Just a reminder that this booklet stays in their binder. It should never stay at home. ALSO, your child should NOT work ahead on this booklet at home. We will work through it together at school, and then they can use it as a study tool at home. Please make sure they DO NOT work ahead in it at home. Thank you for your help with this!
